How to Adapt a Skincare Routine for Perimenopausal Hot Flashes and Sudden Night Sweats?

Perimenopause can make your skincare routine feel like it suddenly stopped cooperating with you. One night your skin is dry and sensitive; the next you’re waking up sweaty, overheated, and irritated.

You don’t necessarily need more products. You may need to make your routine more flexible.

Keep your nighttime routine simple

If you’re going to bed with a heavy layer of creams, oils, or multiple active ingredients and then waking up drenched in sweat, your skin may feel even more congested or irritated.

Try a gentle cleanse and a lightweight moisturizer that leaves your skin comfortable without feeling heavily coated.

If your skin is particularly dry, you can use a richer barrier-supporting moisturizer, but you don’t have to pile it on every night just because your skin was dry earlier in the week.

Don’t exfoliate your way out of sweat

Sweat itself isn’t necessarily the enemy. The problem can be the combination of heat, moisture, friction, and a compromised barrier.

If your face feels sticky or irritated after a night sweat, gently rinse or cleanse rather than reaching immediately for an acid, scrub, or strong acne treatment.

Over-exfoliating irritated skin can create another problem that has nothing to do with the original sweat.

Pay attention to your bedding and environment

Sometimes the simplest changes make the biggest difference.

Breathable sleepwear, lighter bedding, a cooler bedroom, and changing damp pillowcases can help reduce the amount of time your skin spends sitting against sweat and moisture.

And if you wake up sweaty, don’t feel like you have to completely restart your skincare routine. A gentle rinse and moisturizer may be enough.

What about your skin barrier?

Hormonal changes during perimenopause can be accompanied by changes in dryness, sensitivity, and skin texture. If your skin is suddenly reacting to products you’ve used comfortably for years, simplify your routine before adding more active ingredients.

A barrier-focused moisturizer can be useful when your skin feels dry, tight, or easily irritated.

Glóavia’s Ceramide Barrier Reconstruction is designed around barrier-supportive skincare and can fit into a simplified routine when your skin needs moisture without a complicated lineup of actives. It isn’t a treatment for hot flashes or night sweats, the goal is simply to support the skin while your body is going through its own changes.

Your skincare routine doesn’t have to fight every symptom of perimenopause. Sometimes it just needs to stop making things harder.

Yep. There’s a Real Person Behind Glóavia.
